Incantare presents a concert that traces the paths of musicians forced into diaspora during the early Renaissance and Baroque periods. Because of upheavals such as the Italian Wars and the Thirty Years War, many composers left their homes and attained jobs in various cities across continental Europe, especially in Italy, Germany, and Poland. In turn, they spread their own compositional styles while absorbing stylistic traits from the regions in which they settled. Incantare demonstrates the surprising connections between these musicians, whose individual circumstances reveal unexpected geographical, cultural, and stylistic links among themselves and other, more well-known composers. This program features magnificent works for two violins, three trombones, and organ by Johann Vierdanck, Claudio Monteverdi, Diomedes Cato, and Salamone Rossi.
